Vital Stim Therapy
The speech therapists at the Health and Wellness Center at Hamilton Park realize how devastating it is to struggle with communication/cognitive and swallowing disorders.
The center uses traditional methods to treat swallowing disorders, such as conventional speech therapy, patient education and swallowing maneuvers. An exciting new treatment option also available to patients by medical professionals now is Vital Stim Therapy.
Vital Stim Therapy uses a new neuromuscular electrical stimulation system and uniquely designed surface electrodes to stimulate inactive swallowing muscles in patients with dysphasia. Therapists can then create a plan to create or re-educate pharyngeal muscle use patterns necessary to restore swallowing.
Using Vital Stim electrotherapy, some patients can expect to see dramatic improvement in 6 to 20 sessions.
Speech Therapy assists patients in the areas of speech and language skills, swallowing, memory and cognition. Speech Therapists evaluate and diagnose a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders, including those due to trauma or stroke. Speech Therapists also assist patients with cognitive disorders that impair problem solving, short and long term memory
