Vital Stim

The staff at the Wellness Center at Hamilton Park realizes how devastating it is to struggle with communication/cognitive and swallowing disorders. Leslie Gronau, MACC-SLP, a certified speech therapist on staff, can help.

The center uses traditional methods to treat swallowing disorders, such as conventional speech therapy, patient education and swallowing maneuvers. An exciting new treatment option also available to patients by medical professionals now is Vital Stim Therapy.

Vital Stim Therapy uses a new neuromuscular electrical stimulation system and uniquely designed surface electrodes to stimulate inactive swallowing muscles in patients with dysphasia. Therapists can then create a plan to create or re-educate pharyngeal muscle use patterns necessary to restore swallowing.

Using Vital Stim electrotherapy, some patients can expect to see dramatic improvement in 6 to 20 sessions.
